Laws regarding Illegal fishing
There are various laws put in place in order to help combat illegal fishing. These laws include licenses, permits or leases for the use of active fishing gear and the use of undersized fine mesh nets. But maritime police admit they find it very hard to enforce these reg regulatory methods.
Other laws include the prohibition of commercial fishing within 15 kilometers of the shore in order to protect sea life in the immediate area.
The use of fine mesh nets has been prohibited due to miscatch from happening, but by banning this they have exempt the gathering of fry, glass eels, elvers and many other species which are small but are already mature.
